Our base layer for VMware Workstation was Windows 7 and we went ahead and upgraded the base layer to Windows 10. After upgrading and starting a workstation guest we were treated to "no connection" cable unplugged. You are just not going to get on the internet.
So the solution is to go back to the base layer and add back in the VMware bridge protocol that was removed during the windows 10 upgrade.
Hopefully this helps someone.
